Over the years many OMD fan gatherings have taken place, from small meet-ups to larger gatherings with scheduled events - such as the 1997 OMD Convention which saw over 100 fans from all over the world attending. That event was originally conceived as the last large fan gathering of its kind as OMD were no longer active as a band.
 But since then the OMD scene has been kicked into high gear with a variety of projects including the release of the OMD Peel Sessions, Navigation, The Id EP and the recent OMD reissues. With so much OMD activity in recent times, the idea of another large scale fan gathering seemed to make a lot of sense.
